MACODA Empowers Tailoring Graduates with Start-up Kits

24Jun'26

In a bid to support vocational training for youths with disabilities, MACODA has provided start-up kits to tailoring graduates from last year's cohortat the Bangwe Factory's tailoring school. This initiative aims to equip the graduates with the necessary tools to launch their own tailoring businesses.

During the ceremony, the Director General for MACODA, Ellias Hausi emphasized the Council's ongoing commitment to promoting skills development among persons with disabilities. He noted the importance of vocational training in ensuring economic independence and expressed gratitude to various partners for facilitating this initiative.

“We know that what we have provided is not enough,” he said. “However, I would like to assure you that we will relentlessly work towards finding all the required materials for you to run successful businesses.”

Among the resources provided were sewing machines, generously donated by Global Concerns Trust.
One of the beneficiaries, Paul expressed his gratitude upon receiving the sewing machine on behalf of his group.
'We thank MACODA and Global Concerns Trust for this timely intervention. We acquired valuable skills but we have remained idle for months due to lack of business capital.", he said.

More graduates from the other two MACODA's vocational skills centres namely Kamuzu Vocational and Rehabilitation Training Centre and Lilongwe Vocational Training Centre are expected to benefit from this donation and begin their entrepreneurial ventures.
