MACODA joined other stakeholders to commemorate the International Albinism Awareness Day, an event marked globally to celebrate successes and raise awareness about the challenges faced by persons with albinism. During the event, the Government of Malawi, through the Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare, launched the National Action Plan for Persons with Albinism (2026-2030), aimed at addressing the rights and needs of persons with albinism.
This year's theme for the celebration, "Proudly in my skin: Celebrating all skin tones,” emphasizes the importance of solidarity and collective efforts to combat stigma surrounding albinism.
The launch of the National Action Plan marks a significant milestone in the commitment to ensuring that individuals with albinism have access to the same rights and opportunities as their peers. Stakeholders expressed hope that this initiative would lead to improved awareness, education and support for those affected.
The event took place at Buzi Primary School ground in Ntchisi.
